Model Essay: The Trip to the Science Fair in Taipei (中華民國第50屆科展及科教館參訪心得分享佳文)

The Trip to the Science Fair in Taipei

黃晴

Today, I visited the science fair for the first time. I learned some knowledge about the greenhouse effect. They introduced the changing degree of the greenhouse effect in some places, such as Japan, Seoul, Taiwan and so on. We also learned that the warming phenomenon in summer is more moderate. But why? What caused this event to happen? This has been a mystery so far.

Science attracts me a lot, because there must be some objective philosophy in everything. During the science fair, I understood that the most difficult part was statistics. It was because if there is no consistency between statistics, they will spend more time solving the problem. Besides, the most important of all is stability. No pains, no gains. Today’s achievement is from yesterday’s effort.

There were lots of projects in the science fair. We spent one minute finishing glancing at a project. However, they spent a year studying, arranging and making a project. How challenging it was! Ability and effort lead to success!

On July 29, we went to Taipei to visit the science fair. It let me learn a lot, and it gave me many new thoughts about science.

In the morning, we went to the science museum. There were a lot of experiments about science and math. It also let us do the experiments by ourselves. That was really special and interesting. I liked it very much. In the afternoon, we went to the science fair, which was my first time, so when I saw it, I was a little surprised. It let me know what a real science fair was, and I was really excited. I know that all of us have to do an experiment like that in the future. It gave me an idea about how to do it. The experiments in the science fair were really special. I hope I can do a good job like them.

Although I was very tired, I would never forget it. I hope we can have more trips like this in the future. Last but not least, I want to thank our teachers for their lead and care.

I went to Taipei with my classmates today. I had a really good time during the trip. For this trip, I got to get up at five o’clock in the morning and took the bus No. 58 with my classmate at six o’clock. At seven o’clock, w started our trip from Taichung to Taipei. On the bus to Taipei, I played poker cards with my classmates and watched a disgusting TV show. When we arrived in our destination, I felt surprised, because this was my first time to Taipei. Our first stop was Taipei Science Museum. During the time in the museum, I saw many things I had never seen and I really enjoyed the visit. My classmate, May, was crazy about the games. She played almost all things in the museum. After that, we went Xinzhuang Gym. We learned many things from the reports of many students. On the return, we sang songs on the bus. It was really a fun trip. I will never forget it.

Last Thursday, we took a field trip to a science exhibition and visited National Taiwan Science Education Center. In the exhibition, I asked some participants questions like “Why did you want to do this subject?” They all said it was because they were interested in those certain areas. I think it is very important. “Do the things you like to do, and do it well” That was what one of the participants told me. I also asked them a question like “Have you ever felt frustrated in the pursuit of your goals? And what did you do when you were frustrated?” They all told me that they sometimes felt frustrated when they faced some serious problems. Fortunately, they would think of the reason that made them start to do this. They would also think of the enthusiasm they had previously. Eventually, they would feel energetic again, and wanted to complete the subjects.

After visiting the exhibition, I learn two things. The first thing is that we should always try to be curious about what we are interested in. The other is that we should persevere and never give up on anything.

Model Essay: Smell (2010年指考範文楊舒涵)

The most unforgettable smell I have ever come across is that of durians. I remember when I was ten, my family and I visited our relatives in Indonesia .

There, I was introduced to this fruit. I thought its appearance seemed unfriendly, with thorns threatening to burst every cell on my fingers the moment I laid my hands on them. However, the most special part of this fruit was the pungent smell it gave out – it didn’t have those fruity smells that apples and strawberries have, neither does it smell aromatic like coffee. Instead, it smelled rather like trash, and I secretly wondered if this scary fruit was even edible.

When my relatives pried open the thick hard shells of the durians, the odor grew stronger and stronger, and I had to breathe with my mouth to prevent myself from suffocating. My relative offered me a yellow fruit, and I took it reluctantly. I pinched my nose and put it in my mouth. Good gracious! It tasted so delicious, a complete opposite of its appearance and its smell! With that, I devoured every single durian that I could reach.

Ever since then, I fell in love with durians. Whenever I smell this unforgettable smell, I would trace it and enjoy a feast of durians. Some durians taste very sweet, while others have a little alcoholic taste in them. The pungent smell of durians has also taught me never to judge a book by its cover – if I had refused to try durians because of its odor in the first place, I would never have gotten the chance to enjoy such a tasty fruit!
